James Davey

With over a decade spent working at Hawthorn, James is an experienced strategic communications professional specialising primarily in the financial services and financial technology sectors. 
  
James advises a range of high-growth, venture-backed businesses, as well as alternative investment firms operating across private equity, private credit and real estate. He supports clients on issues and crisis management, broader profile-raising and major transactions including fundraising, M&A and debt financings. He combines an in-depth understanding of the market dynamics and communications landscape specific to different sectors and asset classes with a wider perspective on the common issues affecting investors and companies across the financial services ecosystem. 
  
James has represented companies including Arma Partners, the Centre for Finance, Innovation & Technology, DAZN, Equistone Partners Europe, Hayfin Capital Management, LaSalle Investment Management, Pockit, Precede Capital and Zilch. He joined Hawthorn in 2015 after studying History at the University of Cambridge. 
  
In 2025, he was shortlisted in the PRWeek People & Places Awards, recognising the UK’s outstanding corporate communications professionals with up to 10 years’ experience.
